Instagram recovery checklist for creators and agencies

A clear record makes the next conversation easier. Use this checklist before contacting Instagram, commissioning recovery work or handing a client case to another team.

The short answer

Start with the exact message Instagram shows. Separate a suspension, a pending appeal, a hacked account and a login error. Record what has happened, then choose the matching route below. This checklist organises a case; it does not assess eligibility or recover an account automatically.

What does your account show?

01

Instagram explicitly says suspended or disabled

Save the notice and any deadline. Follow the review option offered for the account.

02

Your appeal is still under review

Record the submission date, confirmation and latest status. A pending review is different from a rejection.

03

The appeal was rejected

Keep the decision and case reference. Note whether Instagram offers any further review.

04

Email, phone or password changed without permission

Secure your email and use Instagram’s account-recovery route. Keep any existing trusted session if possible.

05

A code is missing or a video selfie loops

Record the exact step and error. These symptoms alone do not establish that an account is banned.

Four questions before paying for help

Who will handle the case?

Check the legal business name, website and contact route independently. A logo, screenshot or community endorsement alone does not verify a provider.

What exactly is being purchased?

Ask for the service, fee, payment timing and refund conditions in writing. Distinguish an assessment from recovery work and individual orders from packages.

What access is needed?

Establish why access is required, who receives it and how it will be handled before sharing anything. Do not send passwords, two-factor codes or identity documents in an initial enquiry.

What counts as completion?

Agree the expected result and follow-up. A historic success rate is not a guarantee for your account; ordering through a bot does not mean immediate reinstatement.

After account recovery

After access is restored, review the account’s email and phone, active sessions and connected apps. Change any password shared during commissioned work and review two-factor protection. Confirm with your case handler that the agreed work is complete.
